  • What is an LPC?
To be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas, you must do the following: Complete a master level degree taking a minimum of 3 years of master level coursework studying psychological theory, current research, and therapeutic interventions for a variety of presenting problems. During the schooling a counselor will complete a practicum, which in the state of Texas is a minimum of 300 hours heavily supervised by a counseling supervisor and professors. A practicum is when a counseling student begins to work directly with actual clients. Post-graduation a counselor will complete state board examinations. Once boards are passed the counselor will complete a 3,000 hour heavily supervised internship by a licensed counseling supervisor. Once they have completed this process they receive an LPC license.
